MAYSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1953 HAS REUNION WITH OTHER CLASSES

The Maysville High School Class of 1953 held a joint class reunion at the Maysville Country Club on August 16, 2014.  The reunion was held in conjunction with five other classes from 1950 to 1955.  The tables were decorated with bouquets of yellow and white flowers to represent the school colors.  There was a bulletin board with photos that had been contributed by various class members, as well as a table filled with letters from classmates and two Maysville High School sweaters.  Mr. Gerry Calvert, of Lexington was the Master of Ceremonies.  He welcomed all members and guests.  Two former teachers in attendance were: Miss Mary Denney and Mrs. Betty Jane Pitzer. The deceased class members were recognized, and there was a moment of silence in their memory.  Also, the men and women who had served in the military were recognized. Mr. Tom Breeze, of Hillsboro, Ohio, gave the invocation, and everyone then enjoyed dinner and visiting.  “Fathead Davis” and his musical group played in the background. Class members from out of town were:  James and Betty Fannin Burrows, of Pensacola, FL; Tom and Wilma Breeze of Winchester, OH; Gerry Calvert of Lexington, KY; Ronald and Nancy Austin Combs of Somerset, KY; Don and Anna Harover of Lexington, KY; Alan and Mae Tucker Knox, of Huber Heights, OH; John and Mae McChord of Lexington, KY; Willetta Shoemaker of Cincinnati, OH; and Virginia Lowe Winstead of Dixon, KY. Members of the class attending from Maysville were:  Nancy Barkley Brannen, Roger Cline, H. Dale Hall, Kenneth and Joanne Pawsat, Allen and Anne Morton Pollitt, and Julia Laycock Sparks. Committee members planning the reunion were: Nancy Barkley Brannen, Marty Batchelor Downing, Janice Batchelor Collings, Bob Zweigart, Dale Hall, Gerry Calvert, Harlan “Fats” Tolle, Ed McClanahan, Eileen Trumbo Browning, Wilena Valentine Walton, and Allen Pollitt.
